Now that the 2009 regular season has concluded, Pewter Report debuts its first 2010 NFL first-round mock draft. Who is projected to go to the Rams with the first overall pick? Who does Pewter Report have the Bucs taking in the first round? Find out here.
Pewter Report debuts the first of many NFL mock drafts leading up to the 2010 NFL Draft. As the draft approaches the mock drafts will expand in length. To get us started, here is an early projection for the first round.
1. St. Louis Rams - Oklahoma QB Sam Bradford (JR)
They could trade down to get Bradford. Detroit/Bucs could trade up for Suh.
2. Detroit Lions - Nebraska DT Ndamukong Suh
The Lions need help along the DL, but keep in mind that offensive tackle is also a big need.
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Oklahoma DT Gerald McCoy (JR)
The D-line needs a 3-technique pass rusher. Tennessee safety Eric Berry is plan B.
4. Washington Redskins - Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen (JR)
Mike Shanahan will want a QB. Bruce Allen will get his coach what he wants.
5. Kansas City Chiefs - Oklahoma State OT Russell Okung
The Chiefs struggled to pass block and they invested a lot in Matt Cassel.
6. Seattle Seahawks - Maryland OT Bruce Campbell (JR)
Seattle finds a replacement for Walter Jones. Campbell has sky-rocketed.
7. Cleveland Browns - Tennessee S Eric Berry (JR)
His talent says he should go higher, but his position pushes him down.
8. Oakland Raiders - Georgia Tech DE Derrick Morgan (JR undeclared)
They need help up front. Morgan's got the size and speed Oakland looks for.
9. Buffalo Bills - Alabama LB Rolando McClain (JR undeclared)
The Bills need an inside linebacker and McClain is going to be a force.
10. Jacksonville Jaguars - Florida QB Tim Tebow
He will help sell tickets, and could be another version of a Vince Young QB.
11. Denver Broncos (from Chicago) - Oklahoma State WR Dez Bryant (JR)
With Brandon Marshall on the outs in Denver they need a big-play receiver.
12. Miami Dolphins - Texas OLB Sergio Kindle
A great fit as a pass rushing 3-4 outside linebacker. Parcells loves LBs.
13. San Francisco 49ers - Florida CB Joe Haden (JR)
This makes sense. Haden is the top corner and the 49ers need help at DB.
14. Seattle Seahawks (from Denver) - Clemson RB CJ Spiller
Seattle needs help in their running game, and Spiller is a game-changer.
15. New York Giants - UCLA DT Brian Price (JR)
The Giants always look to fortify their DL, and land an excellent prospect.
16. Tennessee Titans - Michigan DE Brandon Graham
Graham carried the Wolverines defense, and end is a glaring need.
17. San Francisco 49ers (from Carolina) - Oklahoma OT Trent Williams
The San Francisco offensive line was a weakness that could use a skilled RT.
18. Pittsburgh Steelers- USC S Taylor Mays
Their secondary got burned late in the season. Mays is a freak athlete.
19. Atlanta Falcons - Missouri OLB Sean Weatherspoon
The Falcons defense needs help and Weatherspoon would be a good value pick.
20. Houston Texans - Texas S Earl Thomas (Redshirt SO. undeclared)
Thomas is a ballhawk that would fill a void in the Texans defense.
21. New York Jets - Michigan CB Donovan Warren (JR)
Lito Sheppard has been targeted opposite Darrelle Revis.
22. Baltimore Ravens - Notre Dame WR Golden Tate (JR)
The Ravens need to get Joe Flacco more targets to pass the ball to.
23. Arizona Cardinals - Rutgers OT Anthony Davis (JR)
The Cardinals tackles were a weak spot. Davis could replace Mike Gandy.
24. Green Bay Packers - Iowa OT Bryan Bulaga (JR undeclared)
The offensive line allowed way too many sacks. LT Chad Clifton is getting older.
25. Cincinnati Bengals - Oklahoma TE Jermaine Gresham
Carson Palmer could use another target to throw to, and this is good value.
26. New England Patriots - TCU OLB Jerry Hughes
The Patriots defense needs more pass rushing, and that is Hughes specialty.
27. Philadelphia Eagles - USC DE Everson Griffen (JR)
Victor Abiamiri hasn't done enough. The Eagles need more pass rushers.
28. Dallas Cowboys - Northwestern DE Corey Wootton
The Wildcats product is a very good fit as a 5-technique in their 3-4.
29. Minnesota Vikings - Alabama DT Terrence Cody
The Williams Wall is getting old and Cody will be a good eventual replacement for one of those DTs.
30. San Diego Chargers - Tennessee DT Dan Williams
The Chargers need a 3-4 NT. Jamal Williams is 34 and may be gone.
31. New Orleans Saints - Penn State DT Jared Odrick
He is a good fit in their defense. DT Sedrick Ellis gets hurt too often.
32. Indianapolis Colts - Florida State CB Patrick Robinson
The Colts secondary needs corner help, and Robinson is the top senior CB.

1. Dez Bryant will light it up @ the Combine and be a top 6-7 pick
Too many DT's drafted in the first round in this Mock, in reality there will only be 3-4 not 6

Why criticize other fans for trying to be positive about their team? It's called hope. Nobody who posts to this website wants a team with a 3-13 record. But right now, it is what it is. So, being a fan, I hope for the future to be better. With a good FA, draft, and training camp, it can be.
So lighten up before you have a stroke. This speculation about what will happen is supposed to be fun.
PR - please monitor posters better. I for one am tired of the foul language and viscious personal attacks. One way to stop it is to pull any post with foul language from the boards. If a poster continues the personal attacks, give them their money back and shut down their id.
I don't mind negative posters. Bucfan47 is as negative as they get, yet I appreciate the fact that he is not verbally abusive or foul in his comments.

granted he was overdrafted as the 17th pick (i think) in 2008, but they wont burn another pick on a POSSIBLE good LT when Suh is sitting in their lap

There are two guys however I feel are NOT top 5 picks, and they both are guys that could potentially land in Tampa. That's McCoy and Berry. I think if you are going to evaluate both of them, assuming they are the Bucs top 2 guys, I really think it's about a dead even. I'm not sure McCoy will live up to the hype.
Suh is the no-brainer pick, and if it takes moving up in the draft to land him, he's worth it. The Chicago pick in the second round turned out to be a bonus pick anyway. In the end I don't see Dominik trading up, but if it's possible, it sure would be damn hard to pass up.
I think this Mock draft is wrong starting from pick one. I think the Rams will draft Suh. They will either keep him or trade him away. I can see that happening. To me, he'll bring some serious value on draft day. Just my two cents. I'll believe the Rams will pass on him when I see it.

And I'm not sure at all Berry would be a good fit to pair with T. Jackson. Berry is a free safety, not a strong ... we need a safety that stop the run !!!

For everyone arguing the Suh vs McCoy debate, Suh's definitely better, and has a much higher ceiling; however, I have heard quite a few people say that Suh is less developed as a pass-rusher than McCoy, even though the sack totals say otherwise. Suh is much better against the run, and supposedly stronger. If you look at Suh's game stats, people say most of his dominant games were against lesser competition (except the Big12 Championship this year of course), which is what is a little scary, but if you look at the numbers you'll see it doesn't matter because no matter what anyone says, or how they try and spin it, Suh is dominant in some aspect of every single game, while McCoy is not.
Suh's stats - http://espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=175300
McCoy's stats - http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=188946
I would be perfectly fine with Berry if those two are off the board though. Some will argue about Berry and Tanard both being free safeties, and not having a banger back there, but both of these guys still hit people, and they are great tacklers with exceptional ball-hawking skills. I'd love to see what these two could do in a secondary with Talib.

Gaines Adams had great sack numbers in college too.
Suh is better than McCoy, I just don't think by that much.
Suh just overpowered people, bull rush, much like Gaines just ran around people with speed. DT is about shedding blocks, stopping the run and applying pressure - sacks are a bonus. McCoy has a better first step and multiple pass rush moves, they both shed blocks well. The difference is Suh seems to have more overall body strength, especially lower body, and uses it very well. Like I said, Suh is better, but McCoy is right there with him. Suh IS over-hyped. All you hear about is how great he is like he's going to part the red sea.

If the Rams really want a QB over Suh, they won't draft one with the first pick. They will save themselves a buttload of money by swapping picks with Detroit or the Bucs, and pick thier QB with the 2nd or 3rd pick. After the Bucs there are about 6 teams in a row that need a QB, but they know they can safely swap with us or Detroit without the risk of missing out on thier QB while saving millions of dollars on the contract and picking up a 2nd round pick in the process.
I think Dez Bryant, and Joe Haden will be considered top 5 picks by the time the draft gets here.
McCoy is not better than Suh at anything. Suh is alone at the top and anyone who has watched him knows this. McCoy might not even be the 2nd best DT in the draft. He probably is, but his skill level is much closer to the rest of the pack of top DTs than it is to Suh's.
My prediction for the Bucs is that we trade. Either down to get Suh, or up to get more picks or a reciever. (Marshal/Boldin) If we do stay at #3, my bet is on CB Joe Haden or the top rated OT.

Marshall, CB Haden
DE Dunlap or DE Selvie
DT Cody
S Nate Allen
The big immediate remaining issues would then be LB, LT, and then maybe another WR and RB. It may not seem glamourous to trade down but if we could get five guys like that using our first 4 picks, we would be in a hell of a lot better shape...

#1. We give the Rams one of our second round picks to move up and get Suh.
#2 We swap 1st round picks with Denver to get Brandon Marshal, take the best available player at 11 and keep all of our draft picks.
#3 Stick with the 3rd pick and take the best player available.

I agree with some about tebow going to Jacksonville. That is a huge reach. Garrard can run and throw better than Tebow so I don't get that pick at all.

IF Suh is not there, they should be doing everything they can to trade down and get more picks.
They could trade down, get HADEN at CB and another 2nd round pick. This draft is loaded with DTs. They can get a real good one in round 2, along with an OT and a WR!
When a team has many, many needs it is better to stock up draft picks so the misses aren't noticed as bad because you are bound to have some hits. It is how the Cowboys were built in 1989-1991. Jimmy Johnson traded down every chance he got and traded away the best thing they had to get more picks (H. Walker)
the Bucs should look at doing that as well and trade away Ruud. Probably could get a 2nd and a 4th for him. They could grab Brandon Spikes in round 2 with that trade. He can cover as well as Ruud and is MUCH better against the run and is an emotional leader out there on defense, something they need.
They should be trying to get anything they can for Clayton and trying to trade Ward as well.
Alot of scenarios. the worst one in my book is if the BUCS give up draft picks to move up. They should be stockpiling them.

Berry is good, but not as good as 2 lockdown CBs. That would help your D-Line as much as getting a pass rusher.
I know Monte Kiffin loves Berry but he also STILL thinks Gaines Adams is the real deal too.

a.) Dez Bryant's stock goes up before the draft. If he is considered a top 5 pick by draft day, Denver could swap with us, unloading Marshal and instantly replace him with Dez Bryant.
b.) McDaniels wants a QB. I'm pretty sure he doesn't want his coaching career to depend on Kyle Orton. If they want one of the top two QBs, they would likely need to trade down to #3 to beat the Redskins, Browns, Seahawks, Raiders, and Bills. All 5 of those teams are in need of a QB.
For them to move from 10 to 3 is equal to the same amount of points as the 18th pick of the first round, so point wise it makes sense. Just have to wait and see. Swapping 1sts with the Cardinals for Boldin is also possible, but they are picking 23rd so that trade would have to involve the Cradinals giving us another player or pick.

Lets face it- we either won one too many games or we lost one too many...One less win-and Suh was ours-one more win would have shown Morris had truely made progress..We are stuck in the middle and it blows...
Word on McCoy is that he is small for the position, that he needs to bulk up to make a difference at the next level-kinda sad when we had about as close of a sure thing in our grasps..
Still disgruntled...

It's going to be an exciting draft. I'm already excited about the Senior Bowl and then the combine.
Question...do we have to wait till the FA period to sign our own FAs to new deals? I'd love to read that we resigned Penn and Bryant as soon as possible.

But the fact the we are going to be a run first team is going take away attempts. That is first and you have a dynamic TE is going to also taking away touches.

I like option #2 if we could get marshall and take the best available player and keep the rest of our picks, lets do it. Fact is...we need help.....everywhere! So the more picks the better. Suh is great, but not better than two rooks, at two different positions. If we could get Haden and Spikes, that would be serious.

I think AB still has it in him, but not for 9+ million.
Penn needs to really get in shape. If he doesn't show up again for OTA's, I'd give him nothing.

I have already read a few articles that are comparing unknown players to the high profile ones. Remember some of these big time teams play weak schedules and get the stats padded. They are also loaded with top prospects which helps their players showcase their talents on national TV every week. Perennial losers ruin the carers of top college prospects while good solid teams draft players like Jerry Hughes (WHO DAT?). It upsets me that Suh will wind up with a loser. Imagine what he would do for a NE, Dallas, or rebuilding defense like The Bucs
So I am going to let a lot of the hype settle and watch things unfold for a few months before I start my annual draft analysis.
But I do enjoy all of your posts on the Subject. Some real good scenarios. Go Bucs
PS....I agree a little less hostility (often confused with Passion) would make this site more productive.....

As far as who the BUCS draft, I am a firm believer that the stronger your OL and DL are, the better your team is. If you have solid lines, you can live with lesser talent at other positions (including RB, TE, LB, CB). The only two other positions of need are QB and WR.
Since we have our QB and a relatively decent back up in JJ, here is what I would like to see in the draft (in order of my perceived need for this team):
The first 6 picks:
DL,DL, WR, OL, OL, WR
Follow that with the best player available for the remaining four picks.
