As the Bengals travel to Tampa this weekend, they will be without their 6’4, 335 pound right tackle.
According to Ian Rapoport, Andre Smith suffered a torn tricep during the first quarter of their 22-13 win at Houston on Sunday. The injury will require surgery, causing him to miss the remainder of the season.
In his absence, backup tackle Marshall Newhouse stepped in and is expected to retain the role when they take on the Buccaneers.
Newhouse had as decent debut against the dominant front seven of the Texans, holding his own, allowing no sacks and just one quarterback hit. The former fifth-round pick will be tasked with an easier job this week as he won’t have to face JJ Watt and company.
It will be interesting to see if Michael Johnson can take advantage of the opportunity, and finally make the impact the Buccaneers expected when they signed him.
Update: The Bengals have signed former Buccaneers tackle Jamon Meredith. The former South Carolina Gamecock was drafted in the fifth round of 2009 to the Packers. After being released from Green Bay, his career had taken stops in Detroit, Buffalo, Pittsburgh and New York. Meredith started 20 games from 2012-13 for the Buccaneers, but has been a backup on the Packers this year.

Jamon Meredith has played for the Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions, New York Giants, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Indianapolis Colts, Green Bay Packers, and now the Cincy Bengals. Talk about a cat with nine lives…..dude must sleep by the phone! lol
See that Jason Licht? A tackle that is 325 pounds. His mere girth makes him a difficult match-up. That’s what we need at RT. Hopefully new “flavor of the day” Jacquies Smith can take advantage of the back-up tackle and get to Andy Dalton. Goodness knows if Jamon gets in there he’ll have the game of his life.
