Starters and those believed to be locks for the 53-man roster don’t typically play in Week 4 of the preseason but the Bucs have a few dressing out Wednesday.
Among them include Alterraun Verner, Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Keith Tandy and second-round pick Noah Spence.
Though Verner is expected to start the season behind Brent Grimes and Vernon Hargreaves III, the seventh-year pro and former Pro Bowler isn’t on the bubble, making his start somewhat surprising. This could just be to get a few more reps since he didn’t play until the second half in the dress rehearsal, or for special teams work, but a notable start for the Bucs nonetheless.
Seferian-Jenkins, meanwhile, appeared to work his way back up the depth chart and into the TE No. 1A or 1B role along with Cameron Brate, who isn’t playing, so it’s interesting that he will get a few more snaps in the preseason. Like Verner, Seferian-Jenkins could be in just to make up for lost time in a backup role for part of the offseason.
As for Tandy and Spence, the former is figured to be a lock for a reserve safety job and special teams starter while the latter has shown promise throughout the preseason. In Tandy’s case, this could just be because the Bucs have so few safeties on the roster. For Spence, more reps for a rookie is understandable.
Surprise players inactive: Mike James and Devante Bond
At first glance, James’ absence would seem to indicate that he won the battle for No. 3 running back. But, considering that he sat out last week with an injury, it’s probably too early to jump to conclusion.
Bond, the Bucs sixth-round pick in May, was also out with an injury last week.

Ugh, I hate watching these games w/ the other teams announcers!!
… I thought the video of his leg getting broken was bad, but listening to JoeTheismann’s commentary is nearly as brutal
You mush have been watching the NFL Network instead of the local channel 8 with Ronde Barber and Chip Myers.
