There’s been no official ruling on Mike Evan’s status for Sunday, but the second-year pro, who’s been sidelined since August 24 with a strained hamstring, was a full-participant at Friday’s practice.
“I feel great,” Evans said on the field after practice. “I was able to run some routes full-speed and it felt good.”
Evans said it was tough to sit out, but the rest and rehab strengthened his hamstring without setting him back with conditioning.
Following practice head coach Lovie Smith, who was in particularly high spirits as Week 1 approaches, said Evans looked as good as he could on a Friday, and that he’ll keep improving with time.
“It’s a Friday, keep in mind that. But he was able to run around a little bit, didn’t have any pain or anything like that, so we’re on the road to recovery,” Smith said. “How soon he gets back to full speed and how soon he’s ready to actually play – each day will tell us more.”
After a good first week of regular season practice, Smith said the game plan is in place and they’re ready for Sunday. Time will tell if the game plan is successful, but the Bucs can at least know now that they’ll be healthy when they go into Raymond James Stadium to take on the Tennessee Titans. At this point, defensive end T.J. Fatinukun is the only player officially ruled out for Week 1.
