Bucs fans were not happy with the lack of pass rush on Sunday, and apparently neither was the front office and coaching staff. After only registering one sack, and only a handful of quarterback pressures against the Panthers, Tampa Bay waived defensive end Scott Solomon and claimed third-year pro Jacquies Smith off waivers from the Buffalo Bills.
Solomon was the second Bucs defensive end waived on Tuesday, after 2013 fifth-round draft pick Steven Means was released earlier in the day. To replace Means, Tampa Bay signed former Chargers first-round pick Larry English who joined the team during the preseason and led the Bucs with three sacks over the final three preseason games.
The Buccaneers did not officially announce the release of Solomon, or the addition of Smith, but a league source confirmed the roster moves to PewterReport.com late on Monday evening.
Smith played his college football at Missouri where he had five sacks and four forced fumbles as a senior in 2011 and finishing his career with 26 tackles for loss and 13 sacks.

L&L pulling the trigger
Musical chairs – happens every season when you start off with crappy players.
No pressure from Claiborne and Johnson? So let’s can the backups. Funny desperate decisions. I like English anyway. Too bad we can’t take back the Johnson signing. Go Bucs!
Michael Johnson needs to step up and give us the pass rush the team needs to win. Come on man, 3rd string QB this Sunday. Somehow, this is a MUST win already and IMO it should be a dominant win.
Where are the message boards?
Hopefully these changes will be of some help. I was a bit surprised English was released after a good preseason. Thought I heard Lovie say that Johnson tweaked an ankle in the 1st quarter. Pass rush just HAS to be better next game.
Well why did Johnson suck the entire preseason when his ankle was fine? His “half a sack” in the preseason was not of his doing anyway — the QB ran into him despite Johnson being beat on the play by the OT.
