Bucs fans,

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have started to make roster cuts in an effort to get down to the final 53-man roster. The Bucs have to cut 22 players by 6:00 p.m. tonight. Wide receiver Cortez Hankton placed on injured reserve, will have surgery after tearing a flexor muscle against the Houston Texans in the final preseason game. Quarterback Josh Johnson has made the team and was not released. The Bucs kept four quarterbacks on the roster.

Below is a list of players that have been cut up to now:

They brought Chuk in to see what he had relative to the other guys along the DL... no harm no foul in the signing IMO.

Not a theory, simply a reason. They traded the other guy who was a vet on the bubble... they brought another for the same role and decided he wasn't worth it given the upside of others on the roster. It's not that complicated and there was no harm in the signing given the circumstances.

Chad Lucas has been cut apparently now. Not a real surprise hopefully Chris Simms is on his way out.

:/ I saw that one coming... as impressive as he's been, it's just going to be so hard to get a guy into that RB spread with Dunn, Bennett, and EG in the fold. Nevermind Caddy who may be close to ready around Week 6. Hopefully we can sneak him onto the practice squad and hold onto him in case of injury.

They have to know the with 17 remaining, what the next 10 are to be cut. Just Nike it....just do it!

dont worry Clifton Smith will be on our practice squad....

he will have the role that Ken Darby had last year which if we have a few injuries to the backfield, you could see him moved up here.

no surprises yet. Questions are: 1.) how many olinemen, dlinemen, and LBs do we keep 2.)  Who of these makes it (3 do if we keep 9)?-  K. Carter, Peterson, D. Moore, C. Bennett 3.) who gets cut from the following: Mack, Wilson, or Allen (I expect one of these wont make the team)? 4.) do we keep QB Johnson or try to get him on practice squad  5.) do we get anything for Chris Simmis or do we merely cut him (I'd try to trade him for 2010 7th round pick that turns into a conditional 4th or 5th based on team that trades for him re-signing him in offseason 5.) If we keep  7LBs, who of these 3 gets cut (Hayes, McCoy, Nece)- I say Nece is odd man out (if 6, Bucs cut 2, in which case I'd cut McCoy and Nece) 6.) do we trade Clayton?  (If we keep 9 olinemen, 9 dlinemen, 7 LBs, and 4 QBs, then we might only keep 5 WRs

1) We will probably keep 8 offensive lineman, 9 at the most.  We will probably keep 9 defensive lineman, but no less than 8.  We will probably keep 7 linebackers, but no less than 6.

My Guess: Penn, Trueblood, Davis, Buenning, Faine, Joseph, Sears, Zuttah--------Adams, Carter, White, Wilkerson, Haye, Hovan, Sims, Moore, Peterson------Brooks, Ruud, June, Black, Hayes, Hayward....


2)Carter is our current starter, I would believe he is almost a guarantee.  Moore is a 4th rounder and will make the team his rookei year.  I thik Peterson makes it over Bennett.

3) I see all of them making the team.  We won't keep less than 5 CBs, so Mack and Wilson are safe.  Also, with Piscitelli's injury, Allen probably locked up a spot.

4) Josh Johnson will be Practice squad most likely.

5) We cut Chris Simms.  I doubt many teams would be interested to offer compensation for him knowing he will be cut within the hour.

5) I think Nece gets cut.  He didn't even start against Houston--the starters were Hayes, Hayward, and Black.

6) We may possibly trade Clayton and certainly see just 5 WRs in our future, but I think for today we will see 6 WRs make it.  

I doubt we keep Spurlock.  No room for a back-up KR...

How come the other cuts are taking so long? Could it be a major name?

The cut's take time because they like to notify the player before they read it on the news.  Be patient.

Perhaps they are announcing some of the cuts as they are made.  BA maybe trying to shop some of the players so they will last till the deadline

yea I was fulled.  I thought they just added Chuck because Douglas was a flop in our system.  It looks like Peterson or Bennett may make the team now, unless we only keep 8 DL, but I dont see that.

well I rather have Buccaneer Wins, so I'll go with Garcia.  Griese didn't look bad, but he reminds me of a guy that can score if you have a quarter to do so, but if you need a TD in less than 5 minutes, expect an INT.  McCown aint looking too bad, but some of his mistakes just make you laugh...
