Bucs head coach Raheem Morris talked about free agent wide receiver Plaxico Burress with the media on Thursday after Tampa Bay's OTA practice. Burress, who was released from the NY Giants after shooting himself in the leg in a nightclub and being charged with a second-degree felony, has been contacted by the Buccaneers, who inquired about his health last week. Morris addressed Burress' situation on Thursday.

“Plaxico has got to deal with his issue with the league,” Morris said. “We’ll see how that plays out. We’ll see how that works out with us and their timing and everything of that nature. But he's a great player.’

“You don’t want to defend Plaxico, but if he’s cleared through his legal issues and the NFL grants him back, I don’t want to be the guy to pass judgment. You’ve always got to look at character. You’ve always got to make that judgement when you meet a person. I’ve never met Plaxico so I can’t judge him right now.

Morris said that the team will not act emotionally and make a rash decision on whether to sign or not sign Burress, and didn't give any indication as to whether the Bucs would be in pursuit of him if he dodges the 3.5-year mandatory jail time that comes with the felony charge - not to mention a suspension by the NFL for violating the league's conduct codes.

“He’s a great player and anytime you have an opportunity to get a great player, you’d love to see a great player come to Tampa. We’re really talking about ghosts as we speak now, we’re talking about a suspended guy.”

While I respect Burress' skills, I'd rather not see him in a Buc uniform. His attitude and poor judgement is not what the team needs right now. If we were one big play receiver away from a legit Superbowl run, perhaps you take a chance for a season.. but on a rebuilding team with rookie head coaches and GM's.. hell frickin' no.

First, he'll be 32 years old soon, aren't we getting younger? Second, the guy has ZERO respect for team principles, like showing up for practice. I believe he was fined over 30 times for one violation of team rules or another.  I, sincerely, hope the Bucs FO is smart enough not to bring this guy in, but it wouldn't surprise me. There are reason Pittsburg dumped him, and we know what happened in NY.
I thought when he got into his 30's he'd mature out of his "thug" persona, but obviouly, that's the real Plax. Dominik and Morris would seal their fate, IMO.

We've got enouh stupid on this roster right now. I don't think we can add much more without reaching critical mass.

if he could jus go to practice and be willing to commit then I'm all for him. But I don't think Harris Smith has learned his lesson even after shooting himself

I think Burress would love to play here in Tampa, plus his favoriate song is "Birthday Sex"..

November 2010 is your chance to put the boot on the throat of this  Marxist President .
