Bucs Open 2012 At Home Against Newton And The Panthers

The Buccaneers will kick off the 2012 regular season at home hosting Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers. Tampa Bay wraps up the regular season as they did last year with a trip to Atlanta to take on the Falcons.
The NFL announced the 2012 schedule tonight and the Buccaneers will kick of the season with a home game against the Panthers September 9, and close the season with division rival the Atlanta Falcons December 30.

With the expansion of more Thursday night games the 4-12 season the Buccaneers will get their prime-time shot October 25 at Minnesota on Thursday night.

Josh Freeman will face the New York Giants and Eli Manning for the first time in his career September 2 when Tampa Bay travels to New York. November 11 new Buccaneers wide receiver Vincent Jackson will face head coach Norv Turner and his former teammates, the San Diego Chargers, at Raymond James Stadium in a 1 p.m. contest.

Another notable contest will be December 2 when Tampa Bay travels to what will more than likely be a chilly INVESCO Field to face Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos.

Tampa Bay's matchups with the four NFC East teams are concentrated in the season's first month.  On the other hand, its four games against AFC West teams make up a bulk of the middle of the schedule, with Kansas City in Week Six, Oakland in Week Nine, San Diego in Week 10 and Denver in Week 13.  The Chiefs will be making their first regular-season visit to Tampa since 2004, a game won by the Buccaneers, 34-31.
 
The Buccaneers are scheduled to play six games against teams that made the postseason in 2011, including two each against division foes Atlanta and New Orleans.  The other 2011 playoff teams on Tampa Bay's schedule are the New York Giants (Week Two) and the Denver Broncos (Week 13).  The Giants are the defending league champions, having defeated New England in Super Bowl XLVI in February.  This will mark the earliest Tampa Bay has played the defending Super Bowl champs since 1989, when they took on the San Francisco 49ers in Week Two.

All games will feature a radio broadcast on Tampa Bay flagship stations 103.5 FM WFUS and 620 AM WDAE, as well as stations throughout Florida that are part of the Buccaneers Radio Network.

    With that said it's too soon to predict a winner against the Panthers but I'm glad we don't have to play them this Sunday. We still have the draft to acquire more talent and we still have time to better develop our players. Cam Newton scares the crap out of me. I'd rather face Luck or RGIII twice a year over Newton. Newton also scares me more than Brees and Ryan.

    The only game I'm concerned with is the opener against the Panthers. Too many unknowns to factor in with the other ones. I was way off last year in terms of predicting the season record and two years ago I said we'd be 3-0 at the bye week. The next thing I know Freeman breaks his thumb, the Steelers start C. Batch instead of Leftwich, T-Jack gets suspended for a year and we end up 2-1. Now I just predict the outcome of one game at a time based on the facts that are available the preceding week.

    I agree with morgan~7 and 9.if we dont have our s**t together in week one we could be screwed by the bye.those first four gams should tell us a lot about what we can expect from this team..

    Looking difficult... I think 5 likely losses and the rest could go either way. Really, it could be a great turn around if we get the ball bouncing our way, or it could be a similar result to last year. No way to tell yet in my opinion. Go bucs!

    Worst to first is the historical inevitability of the NFC South. The Saints are reeling, but Atlanta and Carolina will be tough competition. Nevertheless, if you look at the match up on paper, I don't see anyone that can deal with Jackson and Williams and Winslow and Blount and Freeman (in the pocket and also mobile) and Davin and Nicks all on the field at once. That's going to create some serious match up problems. You have 7 out of 11 starters who can dominate their one on one match ups. If Blount can hold onto the ball, he doesn't have to run for a lot of yards to disrupt, tire, and irritate opposing defenses.In my humble opinion, the Bucs will win the division this year.

    With that schedule I sure hope Schiano figures out the Buc Secondary. With those QB throwing the ball we're gonna need 1-2 more corners who can step right in and play. How in the HELL can Tampa afford to pass on Claiborne if he's available? I see no way they can.

    I see us going 8-8 (although its probobly too early to make such a prediction) I see us beating the redskins, rams, chiefs, and vikings. Then splitting with all of our division rivals. We play them all tough and none of them have significantly improved this offseason. The saints should also be struggling in our first match up due suspensions of coaches and players. Then we just need to steal one game against the raiders or chargers to get to 8 wins. Vick might also be injured by week 14.

    It's not the schedule I'm worried about, it's the teams! I'm worried about (1) Newton, (1) RGIII, (1) Ryan, (1) Brees, (2) Mannings and at the moment no cover corner!

    That's exactly right macabee. The team will give up 30+ to those teams you mentioned if they don't fix the secondary.

    Gee, we've known the teams we will face since last season ended. So the schedule-makers assign dates and suddenly the supposed fans predict 1 win. I learned a long time ago that a lot changes in an off-season, good or bad. After the 10-6 2010 season we predicted more of the same or better and look what happened. Conversely, the 49ers had no idea they were about to ascend the way they did. There really isn't much difference between the teams. Injuries are crucial. I don't think our defense can possibly be any worse and our offense should be improved with the additions made in free-agency. I think 6 to 7 wins is likely simply because I believe the team will be better prepared.

    I see us with 6-9 wins if we stay healthy and disciplined. There should be no giving up this year; this Coach will not put up with it and players will be cut at anytime if they do not go 100% the whole game. Go Bucs!

    We’re going to need a heavy dose of discipline with a lot of fundamentals plus we are going to have to be our best selves to prevent going 0-4 before the bye. The first thing I did was look for the low hanging fruit and I saw the Vikings, Rams and maybe the Raiders and San Diego. After that it's uphill all the way. Oh well, it goes with being a diehard Buc fan, but the thought of losing 14 in a row is starting to creep me out!!! The next poster that says 8-8, would you please name the 8 that we win?

    Wow, I would be happy with 1 win going into the break. 2 wins will mean Freeman is ready to be a pro bowler

    Wow. I think .500 is a reach. I don't see any game that look like a sure win. We could be a much better team and go 4-12

    That NFLN slate is filled with duds. There isn't one marquee matchup anywhere on Thursday nights this year, except MAYBE the first two. As for the Bucs' schedule, it isn't too bad. There isn't a "Murderers' Row" on there. In a dream scenario, the final game is a wild-card play-in that gets flexed to Sunday Night. Nightmare scenario? 2-14 (Rams, Skins) with the top pick in 2013.
