Bucs head coach Lovie Smith said Friday that a decision at starting right guard has been made, but wouldn't divulge who it is that owns the job.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have settled on their starting right guard, according to head coach Lovie Smith, but aren't ready to reveal who that player is just yet.

After Tuesday's trade for veteran lineman Logan Mankins, right guard is one spot on the starting unit that remains officially unsettled as the Bucs begin preparing for Week 1 and the Carolina Panthers next Sunday. Mankins is expected to be taking over starting duties at left guard.

"We feel pretty good about who will start," Smith said about the right guard situation during his Friday afternoon press conference. "Have we settled on it? Yes, for the most part, we have ... with all our positions. We're not going into next week auditioning and seeing who can do what. Yes, we know who our starters will be at all positions. We feel real good about it."

When asked who that starter at right guard will be, Smith said he didn't want to give out more information than necessary at this point.

"There's only so much information that I will be giving next week," he said."We have a game that's coming up right now. We don't want to let Carolina know any more than we have to. They'll be doing the same thing. All the information that we're required to give you, I will give it right away."

Following the team's latest cut-downs Friday, second-year lineman Patrick Omameh continues to be listed as the starting right guard, followed by recent acquisition Rishaw Johnson. Omameh started the Bucs' last three preseason games. Johnson came to Tampa Bay via an Aug. 21 trade with Kansas City for safety Kelcie McCray.

Anyone wonder who the final 53 will be ? Who will they keep at DE ? Or receiver ? will they keep a third QB ?

Let's get incognito. Need a badass and we have enough strong leaders to keep him in line.

Richie Incognito is my choice at RG. We need a BULLYBOY there, he just needs to confine it to the opposition. The Bible thumpers want Billy Graham at RG. Billy Graham won't win many games for the Bucs. You can't have it both ways. NFL football is a dirty, nasty game played by dirty, nasty people. You have to fight fire with fire.

Non-committal means that player is not on the roster yet. Stay tuned!
