Pewter Report has learned that Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive lineman Ellis Wyms is out for the season due to a torn labrum in his shoulder that was discovered during surgery. Wyms, who was re-signed to a six-year contract extension in the offseason, suffered the injury in Monday night's 28-21 loss to the St. Louis Rams and will likely go on injured reserve as early as Saturday. He was listed as "out" on the team's injury report this week heading into Sunday's home game against Chicago.

Buccaneers officials could not be reached for comment.

Both Wyms, who has 19 tackles this season, and reserve nose tackle Damien Gregory, were injured in the Rams game, and both underwent successful surgery by Dr. Zvijac in Miami this week. Gregory suffered a torn patella tendon and was placed on injured reserve earlier this week by Bucs management.

The Buccaneers plan on activating defensive lineman Josh Savage for Sunday's game to replace Wyms in the lineup. The team also signed defensive end Corey Smith from the practice squad to the active roster.

By placing Wyms on IR, the Bucs free up a roster spot for WR Joe Jurevicius, who was taken off the PUP list and will start Sunday against Chicago. uccaneers merchandise in the world.
