Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Torrie Cox has been suspended for the first four games of the 2007 NFL season for failing a drug test and violating the NFL Substance Abuse Policy. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have announced that cornerback Torrie Cox has been suspended for the first four games of the 2007 NFL season for violating the NFL's Substance Abuse Policy. It is not known whether the substance that Cox tested positive for was illegal drugs or illegal performance-enhancing drugs.

Instead of illegal drugs or illegal performance-enhancing drugs, Cox could have also tested positive for alcohol consumption if he had a no-alchohol provision put in place by the NFL for its drug testing, due to Cox's prior DUI arrests on December 4, 2004 and September 13, 2005.

"We are hopeful that Torrie Cox can overcome this personal setback," said Bucs general manager Bruce Allen on Tuesday.

Cox's suspension will begin on Friday, August 31 at the end of the preseason. Cox is eligible to participate in all training camp practices and preseason games, but may not practice or work out at the team facility for the first four weeks of the 2007 NFL season. He is eligible to return to Tampa Bay's active roster on Monday, October 1, following the Bucs' game against Carolina on September 30.
