There is little doubt as to who the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' most valuable player is this season. Thanks to a seven-catch, 138-yard performance in Tampa Bay's 13-10 home loss to Chicago, wide receiver Joey Galloway now has 58 catches for 1,000 yards this year. For his efforts on Sunday, Galloway is also this week's PewterReport.com Pewter Player of the Game.
Galloway has now reached the 1,000-yard mark for just the fourth time in his NFL career. He achieved that feat with Seattle in 1995, '97 and '98.
Galloway keyed several important Tampa Bay's drives against Chicago's number one-rated defense with big plays. On third-and-5 from the 50-yard line, Galloway hauled in a 39-yard pass from Chris Simms to help set up a 27-yard field goal from Matt Bryant to make the score 7-3 late in the first quarter.
With the Bears leading 13-10 late in the fourth quarter, Galloway came up with catches of 30 and 16 yards to move Tampa Bay into field goal range. Unfortunately for the Bucs, Bryant couldn't connect on a 29-yard attempt that would have tied the game at 13-13 with 2:47 left in regulation.
After being held without a catch for just the second time this year last week at Atlanta, Galloway responded with his fourth 100-yard game of the season, and his sixth game in which he has had 90 receiving yards or more.
With two catches over 30 yards against the Bears, Galloway now has seven receptions that have gone for 30 yards or more this season. Although he did not score against Chicago, Galloway leads the Bucs with seven touchdown catches in 2005.
