This year, Bucs middle linebacker Barrett Ruud has teamed up with Pewter Report for the charity golf tournament, which will be held at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club in Dade City, Fla. on Monday, May 18, 2009.

Proceeds from the L.R.E. Ground Services Barrett Ruud-Pewter Report Charity Golf Tournament, presented by Tampa Bay Radiation Oncology, benefit the American Heart Association.

"It is exciting to see the golfers at this even supporting their mothers, wives, sisters, daughters and friends in the fight against the No. 1 killer of women, heart disease," said Kathleen Bell, a local heart survivor and volunteer for the American Heart Association.

The American Heart Association is an organization the Ruud family has supported since Barrett's mother Jaime passed away of a heart attack in June of 2006.

"The American Heart Association is a group that means a great deal to me personally," Ruud said. "My mom passed away from a heart attack at the age of 52, and it was shocking to say the least. My personal experience opened my eyes to how serious heart disease is and how many families it impacts. The American Heart Association is a phenomenal organization and I'm pleased to help out any way I can."

Pewter Report has enjoyed covering Ruud since he entered the league as a second-round draft pick out of Nebraska in 2005, and now it looks forward to teaming up with Ruud in what will be a great time for a great cause.

"We are excited to partner with Tampa Bay middle linebacker Barrett Ruud, who is one of the NFL's rising stars, for his first charity golf tournament to benefit the American Heart Association," Pewter Report publisher Scott Reynolds said. "Barrett has participated in both of Pewter Report's other charity golf tournaments and together we look forward to increasing the awareness of American Heart Association's message about living a healthy lifestyle and raising money for this worthwhile organization. Barrett is one of the most fan-friendly players and I'm sure Pewter Report's readers can't wait to golf with him and his teammates and coaches at Lake Jovita Golf Course and Country Club, which is one of Florida's premier places to golf."

In previous years, Pewter Report had teamed up with Bucs defensive tackle Chris Hovan and helped raise nearly $50,000 for the Children's Cancer Center and The Angelus. Ruud is excited about the opportunity to pick up where Hovan left off and team up with Pewter Report in an effort to aid the American Heart Association.

"Pewter Report has done a great job covering the Bucs in the four years I've been with the team and I've always gotten along with all of their staff members really well," said Ruud. "When they approached me with this opportunity it was really a no-brainer. I've always had a great time at Pewter Report's previous tournaments. The tournaments were always very well run and they had a bunch of great people involved."

You can register now for the L.R.E. Ground Services Barrett Ruud-Pewter Report Charity Golf Tournament for just $150 per golfer ($600 per foursome). Bucs fans are encouraged to sign up now as the tournament is expected to sell out.

"Lake Jovita is one heck of a golf course. It's one of my favorites in the Tampa Bay area and a perfect place for this tournament," Ruud said. "I can't wait to get out and play golf with my teammates, coaches, magazine readers and subscribers and other Bucs fans. It will be a great day."

The golf tournament format is a four-man scramble. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. with a noon shotgun start. The dinner and awards ceremony will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Barrett Ruud and Pewter Report want to thank you in advance for helping us raise some much-needed awareness and funds for the American Heart Association. We look forward to golfing with you at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club on May 18. Click here to register your foursome.
