Tampa Bay restricted free agent Donald Penn has signed his one-year tender from the Buccaneers. Penn, 25, has started 26 of the 32 games he’s played in as a Buccaneer. His one-year deal is worth nearly $2.8 million.
Although he would like a long-term contract and raise, Tampa Bay left tackle Donald Penn will remain a Buccaneer for at least one more season.

Penn had until April 17 to sign his tender, but the restricted free agent inked his one-year tender from the Bucs on Thursday. The one-year deal is worth nearly $2.8 million.

Tampa Bay general manager Mark Dominik placed the highest tender possible on Penn on Feb. 25, which meant another team would have had to give up a first- and third-round pick to the Bucs if they decided not to match any offer from another club.

Penn, 25, originally entered the league as an undrafted free agent with Minnesota. He has started 26 of the 32 games he's played in for the Buccaneers since the team acquired him as a free agent in 2006. That includes the 16 games he started at left tackle in 2008.

The two sides are expected to continue to work on a long-term deal for Penn, which would be the ideal scenario for the former Utah State product.
