Bucs punter Josh Bidwell punted yesterday during the team's special teams portion of practice, but suffered severe swelling in his right hip, which is his kicking leg, this morning. Tampa Bay general manager Mark Dominik said that Bidwell will not punt at Tennessee on Saturday and that the Bucs will be having two players try out tomorrow morning and one will be signed.
"Josh is experiencing hip pain. We're in the middle of conducting MRIs and getting more information right now," Dominik said. "It's too early for us to say, 'What is the severity?' It really is. As soon as we get that information you'll know.
"Our plan right now is that we have a couple punters coming in (on Thursday). Josh is not going to punt this weekend. We'll have some other punters punting this weekend. As soon as we get more information from our doctors, and get more information off those MRIs we'll relay that to you all."
Dominik said that Bidwell's injury became severe earlier on Wednesday.
"It really flared up on him today and was real painful for him," Dominik said. "That caused us to have to take a lot more of a look at it."
Dominik said that Bidwell, 33, has not had a degenerative condition of his hip and that his hip has never flared up like this before.
