Due to Tanard Jackson's four-game suspension for violating the NFL's Substances of Abuse Policy, Jermaine Phillips was practicing at safety in Tuesday afternoon's walk-through. Phillips was the team's starting strong safety from 2004-08 before moving to weakside linebacker in the offseason.

Phillips is currently the starting weakside linebacker, but may have to move back to safety and team with Sabby Piscitelli due to Jackson's suspension. Will Allen, who is currently nursing a shoulder injury, is also a candidate to start in place of Jackson.

Jackson is at Tuesday afternoon's practice and is eligible to practice and play in the preseason games. His suspension begins on Sunday, September 5.
