The quarterback position was a popular topic at One Buc Place Wednesday, but for a different reason.

NFL.com recently reported that two league sources stated the Bucs have been in contact with other teams regarding the possibility of trading one of their four signal callers - Byron Leftwich, Luke McCown or Josh Johnson.

"They sounded like they're willing to deal any one of those three," one executive told NFL.com. "They're looking for someone to make the (starting quarterback) decision for them."

Tampa Bay extended its own deadline this week in terms of announcing a starting quarterback. That competition, which is between Leftwich and McCown, likely will be decided in Thursday's night's game vs. Miami.

Bucs head coach Raheem Morris attempted to downplay the report, but did not deny the team was open to trading Leftwich, McCown or Johnson.

"Everybody in this league, all 32 teams around this time, start calling other front offices. I can't control who calls us," Morris said. "Everybody is interested everybody's roster. Everybody is looking to nit pick off other team's rosters. Everybody has talent, and you are trying to accumulate the best talent on your football team. That's just all that talk is.

"It is what it is. This is the time for front offices to talk. This is the time for front offices to mingle, and that is what that they got to do. For me, I have to coach football games. I have to get the guys on the football field and let them run around, and make decisions on quarterbacks."

Conversations Pewter Report has had with members of the Bucs front office in the past supports Morris’ explanation for the report that suggests the team might be open to trading one of its four quarterbacks, as teams are known for putting out feelers this time of year.

Pewter Report will have a full story on this later today.
