The Bucs have claimed former New York Giants defensive end Maurice Evans off waivers. The Penn State product is in his first season in the NFL. Evans (6-2, 264) was an undrafted free agent who entered the NFL draft after his junior season. After being charged with possession of marijuana before football season, Evans was suspended for the first three games of 2008.

Evans had a banner sophomore season with 12.5 sacks, 21.5 tackles for a loss, and five forced fumbles for the Nittany Lions. After the suspension as a junior, Evans was behind starter Aaron Maybin. He notched three sacks and 4.5 tackles for a loss.

The Bucs also claimed cornerback William Middleton off waivers from Atlanta. Middleton was a fifth-round pick of the Falcons in 2009. Middleton, who is 5-foot-10, 193 pounds, is a rookie from Furman where he logged 95 tackles, nine tackles for loss, nine passes broken up and five sacks and four interceptions as a senior.

Per ESPN's Pat Yasinskas, the Bucs also put waiver claims in on the following players, but were unsuccessful in landing them in the NFL waiver process: CB Brandon Anderson, DE Tim Crowder, DB Marcus McCauley, DB Marvin White and P A.J. Trapasso.

The Bucs filled out most of their practice squad by signing CB Kyle Arrington, WR Patrick Carter, DT Rashaad Duncan, RB Kareem Huggins, T James Lee, TE Ryan Purvis and WR Mario Urrutia. Tampa Bay still has one roster spot remaining on its eight-man practice roster.
