The Buccaneers filled the vacant roster that was created when the team released cornerback Marcus Hamilton on Monday by signing rookie defensive end Maurice Evans. Evans played collegiately at Penn State was originally claimed off waivers from the New York Giants on September 5 on the NFL roster cut-down day.

Evans, who was signed as an undrafted free agent by New York, was released by Tampa Bay on September 14 in order to make room for defensive end Tim Crowder. Evans was on Carolina's practice squad, but was released on October 3.

The 6-foot-2, 265-pound defensive end left Penn State for the NFL Draft after his junior season in which he 3.5 sacks and four tackles for loss. As a sophomore, Evans has 12.5 sacks and 21.5 tackles for loss. He was suspended for the first three games of the 2008 season due to a marijuana arrest, which allowed Aaron Maybin to take over as a starter.

The Bucs did welcome back free safety Tanard Jackson this week, but he is not on the active roster. The Bucs have a one-week exemption to have Jackson practice with the team before having to activate him. If Jackson is activated for this week's game at Philadelphia, the Bucs will have to release another player.

With rookie Kyle Moore's knee injury, the Bucs wanted to add another defensive end for depth purposes.
