Demoted Def. Coordinator Bates Not Traveling With Team To Atlanta

The Buccaneers have informed Pewter Report that demoted defensive coordinator Jim Bates, who has been assisting Raheem Morris while the head coach has taken over defensive play-calling duties, did not travel with the team to Atlanta. Bates was demoted on Monday, a day after the Bucs surrendered a season-high 38 points in a 38-7 loss to undefeated New Orleans.

The Bucs, which have the 27th-ranked defense and the 32nd-ranked run defense, face the Falcons at the Georgia Dome on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. This game will mark Morris' debut as an NFL defensive coordinator.
