The Buccaneers have informed Pewter Report that demoted defensive coordinator Jim Bates, who has been assisting Raheem Morris while the head coach has taken over defensive play-calling duties, did not travel with the team to Atlanta. Bates was demoted on Monday, a day after the Bucs surrendered a season-high 38 points in a 38-7 loss to undefeated New Orleans.

The Bucs, which have the 27th-ranked defense and the 32nd-ranked run defense, face the Falcons at the Georgia Dome on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. This game will mark Morris' debut as an NFL defensive coordinator.
