The Glazer Family Foundation announced its latest initiative to enhance the health and education of children throughout West Central Florida on Thursday; the Glazer Family Foundation Vision Mobile.

During a press conference held at One Buccaneer Place on Thursday afternoon, the Glazer Family Foundation co-president Darcie Glazer Kassewitz discussed the community program and unveiled the Vision Mobile, which will provide eye exams to 1,500 disadvantaged children in West Central Florida.

Of the 14 kids examined from Tampa Bay Boulevard Elementary School Thursday, it was determined by eye doctors that 13 needed glasses.

Glazer Kassewitz, a mother of three, became emotional when explaining the purpose behind the Glazer Family Foundation Vision Mobile.

“This can be life-changing for a child,” said Glazer Kassewitz. “If a child can’t see the board then they have a terrible obstacle in school. We just want to remove this obstacle. The Glazer Family Foundation’s focus has always been children. We hold them with the greatest respect. We want children to be inspired in life and know that there are great things out there for them. If a child can’t see the board they can’t learn and they can’t feel inspired, and then they won’t feel smart. It’s terrible. That’s why we’re so excited about this program.”

The inspiration for the Glazer Family Foundation Vision Mobile was inspired by Bucs owner Malcolm Glazer, who benefited from vision services as a student, and as a result started the "Vision Program" in 2006 to ensure that local youth received vision screening support.

The Glazer Family Foundation Vision Mobile will provide the next step in vision services to not only detect, but correct students' ability to see.

"The Glazer Family Foundation is excited to bring the next step of vision services to Florida's most needy youth," Glazer Kassewitz said. "With the Vision Mobile, the Foundation's impact does not stop at the detection of vision problems; now we have the power to correct them. The Vision Mobile will provide an invaluable service for those who need it most in a fun, engaging environment."
