Tampa Bay's offense was one of the NFL's worst in 2009, ranking 28th overall last year. Despite that fact, Bucs head coach Raheem Morris opted to keep most of his offensive coaching staff intact, including retaining offensive coordinator Greg Olson, who was promoted from quarterbacks coach to that post following the firing of Jeff Jagodzinski last September.

Olson has apparently flirted with the notion of leaving the Bucs. According to Rivals.com, Olson recently spoke with USC head coach Lane Kiffin and his father, Monte, about the Trojans' vacant offensive coordinator job.

Although they worked together in Tampa Bay for one year in 2008, Olson's discussion with the Kiffins didn't amount to much as Rivals.com's report states Olson will remain with the Bucs.

It's unclear whether USC opted against hiring Olson, or if the Bucs prevented him from leaving Tampa Bay for USC. There is a good chance it was the latter since Lane Kiffin is expected to call offensive plays at USC even after he hires an offensive coordinator. Olson signed a contract extension with the Bucs last year shortly after he was promoted to offensive coordinator.

The Buccaneers hired Alex Van Pelt earlier this week to serve as their quarterbacks coach and work closely with second-year signal caller Josh Freeman. The team still is searching for a new wide receivers coach to replace Richard Mann, but that void is expected to be filled by the end of the week.
