According to a report on NFL.com, a toxicology report conducted by Greenwood County Coroner Jim Coursey showed that former Bucs defensive end Gaines Adams had small amount of alcohol and marijuana in his system at the time of his death on Jan. 17. However, Coursey has said that nothing found in Adams' system contributed to his death.
Adams, 26, died while visiting his family in South Carolina. The cause of death was ruled a heart attack caused by an enlarged heart.
The Bucs and Chicago Bears flew to South Carolina to attend Adams' funeral on the Friday following his death. Tampa Bay used the fourth overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft to select Adams out of Clemson. The team traded him to Chicago in October in exchange for a 2010 second-round pick.
