Pundits have opinions, and sometimes they vary. NFL.com draft analyst Mike Mayock"s opinion regarding the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in terms of which player they should draft with the third overall pick in April certainly is an interesting one that has Bucs fans thinking and talking.

Mayock was asked questions on a conference call with reporters on Tuesday, and said the Bucs should seriously consider drafting USF defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul or Oklahoma State wide receiver Dez Bryant if defensive tackles Ndamukong Suh and Gerald McCoy are off the board when the Bucs are scheduled to pick at No. 3 overall.

"If they get an opportunity to get either one of those defensive tackles they should sprint to the podium and hand the card in," Mayock said. "After that they have to look at the defensive end position.

"They had trouble getting to the quarterback last year so would they take a look at Jason Pierre-Paul that early? I think he warrants it from a talent perspective and I like his motor."

Mayock's concern with taking Pierre-Paul at No. 3 overall stems from the fact he "was really only a half-year starter" at USF, where he had six sacks and 42 tackles last season.

Mayock's concern is great enough, in fact, that he said the Bucs should strongly consider taking suspended Oklahoma State wide receiver Dez Bryant at that spot.

"He's my third rated player in the country," Mayock said of Bryant, "and you've got a young quarterback there you're trying to develop and the best thing you can do for him is get him an Andre Johnson-type wide receiver."

PewterReport.com's Take: We respect Mike Mayock a lot and believe he's one of the best in the business when it comes to analyzing and rating collegiate players entering the NFL. While what Mayock is proposing might sound crazy since neither DE Jason Pierre-Paul nor WR Dez Bryant is projected to go in the top five, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers might be tempted to take one of those players if they cannot trade down and are stuck at No. 3 overall. Ideally, the Bucs would like to trade down and select a player like Pierre-Paul or Bryant, but that might not happen unless the team finds a trading partner. One thing is for sure -- the Bucs need a lot of help at the defensive end and wide receiver positions, so Mayock's thoughts on what the Bucs should do with the third overall pick should Suh and McCoy be off the board might not be that far-fetched.
