According to a report in the Tampa Tribune, the Bucs have tendered wide receiver Maurice Stovall with a contract that would require compensation of his orginial draft position if another team signs him away from the Buccaneers. Stovall was a third-round pick in the 2006 NFL Draft out of Notre Dame, and he will more than double his salary in 2010 if he plays under the one-year tender.

Stovall was a third-round pick of the Bucs in 2006 and he was given an original draft position tender, which carries with it a $1.176 million salary for 2010.

PewterReport.com's Take: This move was expected. Stovall did a good job filling in for Antonio Bryant and Michael Clayton when they were banged up with injuries during the 2009 season. Stovall is also a core special teams player for Tampa Bay. Due to working together as backups for the early part of the year, Stovall and quarterback Josh Freeman had some good chemistry. With Bryant leaving the Buccaneers, Stovall is likely to compete to be a starter next season.
