UPDATED: Cleveland Browns free agent safety Brodney Pool was scheduled to visit the Buccaneers on Friday, but that visit won't take place. Pool, 25, signed a one-year contract worth $1.3 million with the New York Jets on Thursday.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are targeting safeties in free agency after losing reserve safety and special teams captain Will Allen to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and watching Sabby Piscitelli struggle in his first year as a full-time starter in 2009.

The Bucs have identified several safeties they're interested in possibly signing, including Cleveland Browns S Brodney Pool, who was scheduled to visit Tampa Bay on Friday, his agent told PewterReport.com.

However, Pool won't make the trip to Tampa Bay. On Thursday night, Pool signed a one-year deal worth $1.3 million with the New York Jets, according to ProFootballTalk.com.

Philadelphia free agent safety reportedly visited with the Buccaneers Thursday, according to the Tampa Tribune, but the St. Petersburg Times reports that the visit will take place on Friday.

Pool, 25, originally entered the NFL in 2005 as a second-round pick out of Oklahoma. He has since started 49 games for the Cleveland Browns, notching 275 tackles, 34 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and 11 interceptions. He has also scored a touchdown during his tenure with Cleveland.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Pool played in 11 games (10 starts) for the Browns last year before his season ended in December due to a concussion. Despite missing five games of action, Pool still notched four interceptions in 2009.

In addition to Pool and Jones, the Bucs reportedly are interested in Miami Dolphins free agent S Gibril Wilson, although PewterReport.com has not learned of a scheduled visit for Wilson as of yet.
