At one point in his career, quarterback Jake Delhomme was considered a Buc killer, helping the Panthers dominate Tampa Bay at times over a period of several years. Could the Bucs be interested in luring Delhomme to Tampa now that he's been released by Carolina? Possibly.

In a lot of ways, I think [Tampa Bay] could be the best landing spot for Delhomme. The Bucs still have Byron Leftwich, but there has been a lot of speculation he could be on his way out. If he goes, the Bucs need someone to help mentor franchise quarterback Josh Freeman and reserve Josh Johnson. Delhomme is a natural for that role and he also would bring leadership to a locker room that didn’t have much of that last year.

PewterReport.com's Take: Although some in the organization like the upside third-year quarterback Josh Johnson has, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers do appear to be in need of a veteran backup signal caller, especially since the team will eventually part ways with Byron Leftwich. Delhomme is 35 and has thrown 30 interceptions over the past two seasons, but he does have plenty of playing experience and could be deemed an upgrade over Leftwich while not posing too much of a threat to second-year QB Josh Freeman for the starting role in Tampa Bay. It will all depend on what happens to some of the other available quarterbacks, like veterans Chad Pennington, Daunte Culpepper and Marc Bulger, who could be released by the Rams.
