A report on National Football Post says that the Bucs have huge interest in free agent defensive end Aaron Kampman. The veteran of the Green Bay Packers will turn 31 during the 2010 season. He was misfit in Green Bay when the Packers switched their defense prior to the 2009 season. Kampman is getting a lot of interest from the Seattle Seahawks, but he has not scheduled a visit with them yet. In the story Brad Biggs writes:

And there is one team that doesn't have a lot of money committed to players that has a lot of interest in Kampman. A league source with knowledge of the situation said that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have "huge" interest in Kampman and classified the veteran as the club's No. 1 target in free agency.

Last year Kampman had 3.5 sacks in nine games as he played in the 3-4 defense prior to tearing an anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee on Nov. 22. In the previous seasons as a 4-3 defensive lineman the 6-foot-4, 260-pound Kampman was very productive. He had 9.5 sacks in 2008, 12 in 2007, and 15.5 in 2006. With the knee injury, Kampman, 30, should not command a massive contract.

PewterReport.com's Take: Pewter Report has heard that Kampman is a top target of Bucs general manager Mark Dominik. The Buccaneers had interest in Kampman at the trade deadline last season. The Bucs are looking to find a new starting right defensive end this offseason. Kampman has the work ethic, character, and leadership that Dominik wants to add to the Tampa Bay locker room. If Kampman is healthy to start the 2010 season and returns to his old form, he could be an affordable signing that offers a lot of production.
