According to ProFootballTalk.com the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are going to hold a visit with Florida linebacker Brandon Spikes. The Gators standout was the leader of their defense on the Gators 2008 Nataional Championship team. Spikes was a three-year starter for the Gators. Gregg Rosenthal of ProFootballTalk.com writes:

The Buccaneers and Bills will also visit with Spikes.

Spikes has the size and instincts to make an ideal fit inside a 3-4 defense, but there are concerns about his top-end speed. On a 4-3 defense, he could play in the middle and some teams may look at him as a strong-side linebacker.

PewterReport.com's Take:
The Buccaneers are looking for potential upgrades at the linebacker position. At middle linebacker Tampa Bay has Barrett Ruud entering the final year of his contract with the team, and extension talks haven't been fruitful. Last year starting strongside linebacker Quincy Black finished the season with more production after a quiet first half of the season. The Bucs are looking for some fire-starter leaders and Spikes fits that mold. He is a big physical linebacker that could bolster the Bucs run defense, which finished last in the NFL in 2009. Spikes draft stock is debated. Some have him as a late first-round pick while others have him in the second or third round.
