Sources close to Willie Parker told PewterReport.com on Friday that Tampa Bay had expressed interest in the free agent running back. However, a high-ranking Bucs official disclosed Wednesday that the team had not reached out in any capacity to Parker.
Although sources close to Willie Parker have suggested otherwise, PewterReport.com learned Wednesday through a high-ranking Tampa Bay official that the Bucs are not interested in signing the free agent running back.

Citing league sources, PewterReport.com reported on Friday morning that the Bucs had expressed interest in Parker, a 29-year-old running back that rushed for 5,378 yards (4.3 avg.) and 24 touchdowns with the Pittsburgh Steelers since 2004.

On Wednesday, the high-ranking Bucs official attempted to deny any interest in Parker, telling PewterReport.com, "We have never reached out in any capacity to Willie Parker."

The Bucs still are believed to be in the market for a running back. Tampa Bay's ground game ranked 23rd in the NFL last year. The Bucs have Derrick Ward, Earnest Graham, Kareem Huggins and Clifton Smith under contract for 2010. Cadillac Williams has been tendered a contract as a restricted free agent and is expected to re-sign with the Bucs.

Although there are some accomplished older running backs still available in free agency, like Parker, LaDainian Tomlinson and Brian Westbrook, the Bucs likely will wait until the 2010 NFL Draft to address their running back position, if they decide to add more players to this position at all.
