According to the St. Petersburg Times, free agent linebacker Jon Alston is visiting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers today. Alston (6-0, 235) spent his first NFL season with St. Louis Rams after being drafted in the third round of the 2006 NFL Draft. After one season in St. Louis, Alston played with the Oakland Raiders for the past three seasons. Oakland did not tender Alston a contract so he became an unrestricted free agent.

Linebacker depth and special teams always is a big need for the Bucs.

That's why Raiders free agent linebacker Jon Alston is visiting with the Bucs today.

PewterReport.com's Take: If Tampa Bay signs Alston, he would be a backup for starting Will (weakside) linebacker Geno Hayes. Alston is a speed linebacker that would help fortify the Bucs special teams. The Buccaneers lost special teams captain Will Allen in free agency. Alston was an interesting draft prospect coming out of Stanford, but he has only started eight games in four seasons.
