The Tampa Bay Buccaneers parted ways with punter Josh Bidwell last month, which allowed the free agent to sign with the Washington Redskins on Tuesday.
Bidwell, 34, spent six seasons (2004-09) with the Bucs. In 2009, Bidwell was placed on injured reserve to undergo hip surgery, which required months of rehab.
The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Bidwell overcame testicular cancer to have a successful career in the NFL with Green Bay and Tampa Bay, averaging 42.8 yards per punt and making the Pro Bowl.
The Bucs have one punter -- Sam Paulescu -- under contract for the 2010 season.
