The recently acquired Reggie Brown is preparing for what is to be a new beginning as a Tampa Bay Buccaneer after the team traded a 2011 sixth-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for him on March 8. Brown had a very productive past, but that production has since seen a decline after the Eagles drafted DeSean Jackson in the second round of the 2008 draft and Jeremy Maclin in the first round of the 2009 draft. Brown tells Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune that he is ready to prove his skeptics wrong with the Bucs. Cummings writes:

Whenever anyone talks about Reggie Brown these days, it's usually in the past tense. You know: Brown used to catch a lot of balls, Brown used to be a pretty good playmaker.

Brown believes he can change that.

"I'm still a guy who can run good routes and catch the ball and make plays," the Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver said Tuesday. "Once I get the ball in my hands I feel I can help a team a lot."

PewterReport.com's Take: It's good to hear that Brown is ready to be a contributor in 2010 because Tampa Bay needs as much help as it can get at the WR position after losing Antonio Bryant in free agency. The former second-round pick is low-risk, high-reward player because the Bucs didn't give up much to get him, and if he can be a solid contributor, the Bucs would get a great return for their investment. Even if Tampa Bay drafts a receiver early, Brown should compete for a starting job next season along with receivers Michael Clayton, Sammie Stroughter, Maurice Stovall, and Mark Bradley. It's up to Brown to step up and prove that he's capable of playing at the level he once played at early in his career. - Eric Dellaratta
