At Mississippi, McCluster totaled 1,955 yards rushing (6.4 average) with 15 touchdowns and 1,703 yards receiving on 130 receptions with seven touchdowns. As a senior, McCluster ran for 1,169 yards averaging 6.5 yards per carry with eight touchdowns.
McCluster (5-9, 172) had an impressive performance during the week of the Senior Bowl, but had a mixed outing at the NFL Scouting Combine. He wowed many when he recorded 20 reps on the bench press of 225-pounds, but set off alarm bells when he had a 40-yard dash time of 4.58 seconds. Many expected McCluster to run around or below the 4.4 mark. He ran a slightly better time at his pro day.
Most still project McCluster to be drafted somewhere between rounds 2-4. Tampa Bay lacks explosive playmakers on offense, and McCluster proved to be that in college. McCluster grew up a Bucs fan close to Tampa in Largo, Florida. He also fits the high-character player that the Buccaneers are looking for. Because his hometown is in close proximity to One Buc Place he does not count against the team's 30 alloted draft prospect visits. The same applies to Skinner, who hails from St. Petersburg and went to Boca Ciega High School.
After coming to Maryland as a wide receiver, Skinner was moved to safety. At 6-foot-2, 214-pounds and with good speed, Skinner could potentially be a strong or free safety at the NFL level.
Skinner started for Maryland the past two seasons. In his career he recorded 141 tackles with 4 tackles for a loss, six passes broken up, one forced fumble, and two interceptions. He also returned 11 kickoffs for 191 yards (17.4 average). He has the reputation of being a good open-field tackler.
Skinner projects as a mid-rounder. The Bucs signed free agent safety Sean Jones to compete with strong safety Sabby Piscitelli, but still could target more safety help in the draft. Both Piscitelli and starting free safety Tanard Jackson are in the final year of their contracts with Tampa Bay.
