Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Maurice Stovall signed his one-year tender contract on Friday. The Bucs had tendered Stovall (6-5, 220) a contract that would have caused another team to compensate the Buccaneers with a third-round pick if they signed Stovall away. Stovall will make $1.176 million in 2010, which is almost double his 2009 salary.

Tampa Bay drafted Stovall in the third round of the 2006 NFL Draft out of Notre Dame. Before 2009, Stovall had a total of 20 catches for 213 yards and one touchdown. He struggled with injuries over his second and third year in the league.

Last season Stovall caught 24 passes for 366 yards and one touchdown. Stovall had three catches for 80 yards in Week 2 at Buffalo, and four catches for 47 yards including a 33-yard touchdown pass from Josh Freeman in Week 10 at Miami. Stovall, 25, started seven games in place of injured starters Michael Clayton and Antonio Bryant. Stovall is expected to compete for a starting position in 2010. Bryant signed with the Cincinnati Bengals in free agency, and Clayton is not a lock to be on the 2010 roster.

In his career Stovall has played in 44 games. He has recorded 44 catches for 579 yards with two touchdowns. Stovall has been a special teams standout with 33 tackles in his career.
