Defensive tackle Brian Price and cornerback Myron Lewis both did not make the trip to Miami due to hamstring injuries. Both returned to the practice field this week and are expected to see the field in the preseason home opener on Saturday night against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Lewis, a third round pick out of Vanderbilt, is especially excited about playing under the bright lights at Raymond James Stadium.
"I'm real anxious," said Lewis. "This will be my first official NFL game, even though it preseason, but it's still going to be my first game and just having the opportunity to be able to go out there is a blessing."
Lewis was sidelined during parts of OTAs due to an abdominal injury and doesn't like not being out there with his teammates.
"It's always frustrating when you are standing back and watching," said Lewis. "You get a lot of mental reps, but that is a big part of the game too."
Lewis will have a chance to put those mental reps to use against the Chiefs and head coach Raheem Morris believes he will make the most of his opportunities.
"Myron's hungry. He wants to go play," said Morris. "He watched that game (vs. Miami). It's his turn this week. He'll have a chance to go out there and play with those twos and those threes a little bit."
What can fans expect from Lewis when he gets onto the grass for his first real action?
"[I'm going to] play fast, play hard and make plays," said Lewis.
