The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced on the team's website that two of the competitions for starting spots have been decided. Safety Sean Jones has beaten out Sabby Piscitelli for the starting strong safety position. At left guard Keydrick Vincent has beaten out Jeremy Zuttah for the starting position. While there is still time for the team to change the starters, head coach Raheem Morris likes to have his regular season starters set by the third preseason game.

Piscitelli, 27, was the Buccaneers starter at strong safety in 2009, and came under heavy criticism for missed tackles and blown coverages. Last year Piscitelli (6-3, 224) finished with 80 tackles, five passes broken up, and two interceptions. Jones (6-1, 220) was a second-round pick by the Cleveland Browns in 2004, and has started 53 games in his career. Jones, 28, recorded five interceptions in the 2006 and 2007 season with four in 2008. Tampa Bay signed Jones to a two-year contract last March.

Zuttah, 24, has started 21 games over his first two NFL seasons. Last year Zuttah (6-4, 308) was given the starting spot at left guard after Arron Sears left the team with personal issues. Zuttah came under criticism for his run and pass blocking, and after not impressing during the OTAs (organized team activities) and mini-camp, the team signed Vincent to provide competition. Vincent, 32, spent the past two seasons as a starter for the Carolina Panthers. The 6-foot-5, 325-pound Vincent has a reputation as being a powerful run blocker.

Typically Morris wants to have his starting lineups set going into the third preseason game so that the starting units can have that game and the remaining weeks of practice to work together before the regular season opener. The Bucs open the 2010 regular season when the host the Cleveland Brown on September 12.
