The NFL has suspended Buccaneers CB Aqib Talib for the first game of the 2010 regular season for violating the league's personal conduct policy. Talib was arrested for punching a cab driver in August of 2009. Talib had previously gotten into a two fights as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be without cornerback Aqib Talib for Week 1. The Bucs have announced that Talib has been suspended by the NFL for violating the Personal Conduct Policy. Talib loses one game check and is fined another game check as punshiment.

"Since last fall, Aqib has done all that's been asked of him and more, on and especially off the field. We look forward to his return to the field in Week 2," said Buccaneers general manager Mark Dominik.

Talib (6-1, 205) will be eligible to return for the Bucs’ Week 2 matchup against the Carolina Panthers. He can participate in Thursday’s game against the Houston Texans and is allowed to practice with the team for the remainder of the preseason. Talib’s suspension starts on September 4 and he may return on September 13.

The 24-year old Talib was suspended after his third fight since becoming a Tampa Bay Buccaneer. Shortly after being drafted Talib got into a fight with teammate Cory Boyd at the rookie symposium. In the spring of 2009 Talib got in a fight with teammate Donald Penn in practice. Talib swung his helmet at Penn and ended up injuring teamamte Torrie Cox in the process. Last August Talib was arrested after assaulting a cab driver following a celebration with some teammates.

After the third incident the team said they would consult with the NFL office regarding punishment for Talib. Talib settled the matter with cab driver out of court.

Tampa Bay selected Talib with 20th overall-pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. As a rookie Talib had 27 tackles with four interceptions and 10 passes defensed. Last season, Talib totaled 69 tackles with five interceptions and 17 passes defensed.
