The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have announced that they have released rookie defense end Erik Lorig. The move was made to make room for cornerback Aqib Talib who is coming back from a one-game suspension. The Bucs selected Lorig in the seventh-round of the 2010 NFL Draft.
Fresh off a one game suspension for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy, cornerback Aqib Talib rejoined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday. To make room for him on the active 53-man roster, the Bucs released defensive end Erik Lorig on Tuesday. The Bucs also announced that they have cut punter Brent Bowden and have signed guard Brandon Carter to their practice squad.

Lorig was a seventh-round pick by the Buccaneers in the 2010 NFL Draft. Lorig had four tackles in the preseason. He was inactive for the Bucs' season opener against Cleveland. Due to having a draft pick invested in him, it would not be surprising to see the Bucs sign Lorig to the practice squad.

Carter was an All-Big 12 selection in 2009 for Texas Tech. He was an undrafted free agent that signed the New Orleans Saints. He was on the Saints' practice squad last week, but was released.

Last August, Talib was arrested after assaulting a cab driver following a celebration with some teammates. That was the third incident that Talib had been involved in since joining the Bucs in 2008. Talib and the cab driver settled the dispute out of court.

Talib, 24, is expected to be at practice on Wednesday and will start against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

The Bucs selected the Kansas product in the first round (No. 20 overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft. In his two seasons with Tampa Bay, Talib has nine interceptions and 27 passes defensed.

E.J. Biggers, who started in place of Talib in the opener against Cleveland, will be the starting nickel cornerback.

I'm a Carter fan. I was always impressed with him and the rest of the Texas Tech O-linemen who could still pass protect in that formation they use with those huge gaps between each O-lineman. I was never much of a fan of Lorig, but I supported him as a Buc. He was probably the best guy on the team let go. While we're at it lets drop Simms for some other team's practice squad DT.

On to week 2, I hope we can pull out 2-0.

Brandon Carter is PERFECT for this team. He can continue his pirate-themed face paint as a Buccaneer!

One thing about Dom is that he is constantly looking for ways to upgrade the roster. Lorig got behind because of his injury and never could catch up. He'll probably be back at training camp next year. I hope the new guard sticks, the oline needs somebody younger (Vincent)and better(Zuttah).

    Welcome back Talib!!!! GO BUCS!!!

Yahoo!! We got the guy I wanted in the draft, Brandon Carter. A Big Nasty guard. Just what we need, lets have him learn from Vincent and practice against McCoy and Price And Miller it will help them all!! A great pick-up.

Saw this one coming with return of Talib. If they do sign him to the practice squad then they see upside. I am trusting the talent evealuation of this team. Which thats good not only for future use if someone gets hurt but also trades with other teams. They say he has a high motor and if thats the case then he might work hard to make it somewhere.

Talib is very talented and should become a top corner and a pro bowler. AS long as he keeps his cool, he will shine every game. Glad to have him back this week at Carolina and can't wait to watch Bucs defeat the Panthers!! Lorig was a reach anyway and probably want make any other team. Go Bucs!!

Here was a guy that looked promising and ended up being ST fodder. Hope he does well somewhere else.

They must see something in him they want to develop, perhaps they'll make room for him on the practice squad by cutting the punter Bowden

I guess this was expected. I wonder if he gets put on the practice squad ? I am glad Talib is back.
