After their 38-15 victory over the Seattle Seahawks yesterday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have now secured a winning season with a record of 9-6. With the Bucs tripling their win total from last season and having a young nucleus to build around, the future looks very bright for Tampa Bay.
However, the Bucs are not looking forward to the future when they have a chance to make the playoffs this season. Wide receiver Michael Spurlock said the team is trying to seize the opportunity that is in front of them.
“The first year I came into the league with Arizona I think we won five games. I came here and we went to the playoffs in 2007. It’s 2010 and we haven’t been back,” said Spurlock. “It’s one of those things that get taken for granted and you look back thinking if I could have done this or could have done that, but you have to grasp and seize the moment… I think the best-worst thing that we have is that a lot of guys don’t understand that you might not get back. That’s also a good thing because they are just having fun and there is no pressure. It’s really a double-edged sword.”
“If we don’t get in this year then we have to build everything back up next year. It’s like everything gets erased no matter what you did last year. You have to start back at the bottom and climb your way back up the hill. We are right there with a chance to get to the top. It would suck to not get to the top.”
With a chance to get to the top this week against New Orleans, linebacker Geno Hayes said that life is definitely nicer than it was at this point last year when the team had a record of 3-12 going into the last week of the season.
“It’s a whole lot better,” said Hayes. “Of course you want to be in the playoff picture and in all the scenarios, but that is out of our hands and we are just focusing on getting a W. All those scenarios about who wins and who loses, we really can’t worry about those things. It’s about us getting a W.”
