The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had two members of their 2010 rookie class named to the Sporting News All-Rookie team, which was selected by writers and editors as well as NFL scouts. The two Bucs honored on the team are running back LeGarrette Blount and wide receiver Mike Williams. Blount and Williams are the first teammates since 1968 to lead all rookies in rushing and receiving yards.

Blount started the season on the bench, but ended it on a tear. After barely playing through the first five weeks, Blount took over the starting job for Cadillac Williams midway through the season. Blount finished his rookie campaign by averaging 5.0 yards per carry for 1,007 yards and six touchdowns. Due to his tremendous play over the final five games, Blount was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for the month of December. During that time he had 511 yards on 87 carries (5.9 avg.) and two touchdowns.

Williams was a consistent threat all season long and ended up finishing with a franchise record 11 touchdown receptions. He caught 65 receptions for 974 yards, which was good for a 14.8 average. Williams also was a top five finisher in the Sporting News’ Rookie of the Year award. He received 10 votes overall, well short of winner defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh (260 votes).

One Buccaneer that is not on the team is defensive tackle Gerald McCoy, who was the third overall pick. McCoy amassed 43 tackles, 3.0 sacks, and one forced fumble in 13 games, but had his season cut short with a bicep injury that landed him on injured reserve. He was beaten out by Jacksonville’s Tyson Aluali, who had 38 tackles and 3.5 sacks in 16 games.
