At the conclusion of the 2010 season, Buccaneers head coach Raheem Morris stated that he wanted to have his entire coaching staff back for next year. Ultimately, Morris did not get his wish. While Morris may have lost two of his coaches that helped him reach a 10-6 record last season. Pewter Report has learned that he has kept most of his staff intact by re-signing running backs coach Steve Logan, linebackers coach Joe Baker, and tight ends coach Alfredo Roberts.

Morris has said that there are two, possibly three, spots left on his staff that he needs to fill, and he is not in a hurry to do so.

“I like to scour,” said Morris. “I’m looking for a (Eric) Yarber-type. I’m looking for a Raheem Morris-type -- those hungry guys. I am going to go the Patriot way. That has worked for them.”

Last week, long-time special teams coordinator and assistant head coach Rich Bisaccia turned down a contract offer from the Buccaneers to coach special teams for the San Diego Chargers. Bisaccia spent nine seasons in Tampa Bay and over the past few seasons he helped the Bucs have one of the best special teams units in the NFL. Taking the job the Bisaccia left behind will be former special teams quality control coach Dwayne Stukes. Stukes spent three seasons helping Bisaccia on special teams before becoming the assistant defensive backs coach in 2009.

Also, last week Pewter Report reported that defensive line coach Todd Wash would not be returning to the team next season. Wash had coached the defensive line for the previous three seasons. Pewter Report was told that the Buccaneers wanted to sign Wash to a multi-year contract but he turned the offer down in order to pursue other opportunities.

Reports surfaced last week in the Minneapolis Star-Tribune that the Bucs had offered the defensive line coach position to the Vikings’ Karl Dunbar. However, Vikings head coach Leslie Frasier said the Dunbar would be remaining with the team next season.

Morris’ search for a defensive line and a quality control coach or two will likely continue into next week at the Senior Bowl. After all, it was not until after Senior Bowl last year that Morris hired Yarber to be the wide receivers coach, which turned out to be a great hire for Morris.

For the defensive line, Morris needs to find someone that can teach and mold the young talent that is currently on the roster. At the defensive tackle position, the Bucs have a first-round pick (Gerald McCoy), a second-round pick (Brian Price), and a third-round pick (Roy Miller). Tampa Bay is also likely to select a defensive end with a high draft pick this season. That means that the Bucs will have a lot of money and picks invested in their defensive line and they will need a coach that can get the most out of them.

When searching for his quality control coaches, Morris will likely be looking for someone that can help out a certain position group, like Stukes did in 2008 when he served as the special teams quality control coach.

Morris also hinted that whomever he hires may not be someone from the NFL, which means that he could pluck a coach or two from the college ranks to be a part of his coaching staff. Yarber was the wide receivers coach at Arizona State before he was hired by Tampa Bay.
