Speaking on NFL Network’s Total Access, Tampa Bay Buccaneers second-year defensive tackle Gerald McCoy issued two big goals for the 2011 season. McCoy said he personally wants to record double-digit sacks and see his team in the playoffs.
“Yes sir, we definitely will,” said McCoy of the Bucs in the post-season. “It is going to be a tough road though. We are looking at it as a challenge. Just like last year, our goal was a race to 10. We looked at it as a challenge to get 10 wins. This year with our schedule being as tough as it is, we want to get to the playoffs and we won’t accept anything less, so that is why I’m making that bold statement. Just like our coach did last year, best team in the NFC, well Gerald is making a bold statement by saying the Bucs will go to the playoffs.”
NFL Network analyst Trent Green said he doesn’t think Tampa Bay will make the post-season. He highlighted the Bucs 4-4 home record and tough division opponents. Kurt Warner said he felt the Buccaneers were short on explosive plays.
“We know the things that gave us trouble last year, and those are the things we are going to try and improve on this year,” said McCoy. “Just like they built off the 3-13 season. We had a 10-6 season, they fixed the things they had trouble with and we plan on doing the same thing heading into this season.”
