With Myron Lewis and Aqib Talib still ailing with minor injuries the Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced Monday they have reached terms with free agent cornerback Ashton Youboty on a two-year deal.
Youboty was drafted in the third-round of the 2006 draft by the Buffalo Bills and played in 43 games with seven starts. The former Ohio State Buckeye has one career interception playing primarily on special teams and in nickel coverage during his tenure in Buffalo.
Raheem Morris commented on the signing during his afternoon press conference.
“Big long talented corner, obviously I didn’t evaluate him personally, I was at Kansas State that year. But Jimmy Lake did,” Morris said. “He came in and worked out for us and did a nice job. It will be nice to get him out there with that competition. He is another long guy, like Aqib [Talib], like Myron [Lewis]. For us, when we talk about corners, we a look for those guys that can go out there and play man-to-man and bump [coverage].”
To make room on the roster the buccaneers released reserve tight end Jose Cruz.
