The Bucs placed DT E.J. Wilson on injured reserve and signed DT John McCargo to fill his roster spot. The Bucs have been banged up at the defensive tackle spot with Roy Miller and Brian Price missing the Patriots game due to injuries.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed former Buffalo defensive tackle John McCargo on Saturday and placed defensive tackle E.J. Wilson on injured reserve after he cleared waivers. Wilson was having a very good training camp and preseason for the Bucs before hurting his foot in Tampa Bay’s 31-14 loss to New England in the team’s second preseason game on Thursday.

The 6-foot-3, 289-pound Wilson, who is in his second season out of North Carolina, was seeing action with the first- and second-team and was a very disruptive force during his time on the field, in which he recorded three tackles through three preseason games.

McCargo, who turned 28 on Friday, is listed at 6-foot-2 and weighs 307 pounds. He was the second of two first-round picks of the Bills in 2006 and had a very disappointing five-year tenure in Buffalo. According to NFL.com, McCargo has totaled 47 tackles, five passes defensed, 2.5 sacks and one forced fumble while playing in 40 games with just one career start.

McCargo’s pro career has been plagued with injuries. In 2008, he missed the final 11 games of the season with a broken left foot. He had a second surgery to fix his foot that caused him to miss some practice time in the 2009 offseason. He only played in 11 games during the 2009 season and one in the 2010 season before he was placed on injured reserve in late November. The Bills attempted to trade McCargo to Indianapolis for a fourth-round pick last October, but he failed the Colts’ physical due to a bulging disc and was returned to Buffalo where he was put on IR about a month later.

The only season in which the North Carolina State product has played in all 16 games was in 2007. In his rookie season, McCargo played in only five games.

Tampa Bay is currently thin at defensive tackle with starting nose tackle Roy Miller being sidelined for the rest of the preseason with a torn MCL (medial collateral ligament) in his knee. That injury occurred in the Bucs' 25-0 shutout win at Kansas City. Backup nose tackle Brian Price is still rehabbing from offseason pelvic-hamstring surgery and has yet to play in the preseason despite practicing with the team on a limited basis during training camp.

They needed a player at the position and opted for a veteran. Hopefully Miller is ready to go for the season.

this is our big free agent splash? Don't know who is a bigger bust him or Ryan Sims and we now have or had both sighh!

That's the best they can come up with? I'd rather take a flier on some kid who didn't get drafted, but is at least healthy. Scott usually look forward to a fab 5 on a sunday morning. Come on slacker, we're do!!

Sometimes retreads work out. Belichick had Andre Carter and that bunch of retreads looking pretty good. Maybe Morris can do the same thing. If Marcel Dareus Busts in Buffalo, then that place has a jinx and no 1st rounder should ever go there again!!

Camp player to fill out the roster.

I am sure they will grab someone else when the cuts start. And hopefully a RB that can pick up the BLITZ and be a power back too!

So we shouldn't expect much from McCargo ? I don't know him ..but that could be that he spent most of career in IR...Well if he's a Buc I'm rooting for him

Damn EJ was really starting to shine too.

Doesn't sound good. Hopefully he can stay healthy & show us something!!! Go BUCS!!

    E. J. Wilson goes on IR...damn. Bucs sign J. McCargo...damn again. He was a reach way back when he was drafted and on top of that he clearly can't stay healthy. Hopefully he can serve as a body that's healthy enough to survive the rest of the practices until the regular season starts.
