Bucs Waive Yount, Sign Albritton And Make Practice Squad Move

While the team's regular long snapper, Andrew Economos, is still recovering from offseason Achilles tendon surgery and is on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list through the first six games of the 2011 season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers waived long snapper Christian Yount and replaced him with long snapper Scott Albritton on Wednesday. 

Albittron entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent this year with the Houston Texans before being cut on September 3, 2011, during the final roster cuts.

Yount, who hailed from UCLA, signed with the Buccaneers on July 27 and played in the team's season opener against Detroit on Sunday.

The team also announced it has signed former Ohio State linebacker Ross Homan to the practice squad and released linebacker Derrell Smith from the practice squad. Homan was a sixth-round pick (200th overall) in the 2011 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings. Smith was a priority undrafted free agent signing out of Syracuse and went to training camp with the Buccaneers.

    I know nothing about the guy, but a question for all of you Homan supporters. If he is THAT good, why didn't he make the Viking roster and stick?? Is he still injured a little?? I'm just sayin. . . . All that aside, I like the move. At least we are still trying to improve our team. If he is that good, maybe he plays ST until he learns our D, then he can replace whoever is not making plays on the field. Can he play Mike too ? ? ?

    I see that Tampa is doing a little here and there, But I hope RB poerhouse BLOUNT will steam roll over Vikings. For a VICTORY GO BUCS

    I liked Homan alot comming out of OSU. Was hoping the Bucs would give him a shot in the draft. I like this even better. Could be another PS steal.

    Remember this! The Homan signing is writing on the wall for Geno Hayes. If hayes doesn't improve his consistency, this kid will have his job next year. Had a foot injury coming out of OSU or otherwise the best WLB in the draft!!

    I like the signing of Homan to the PS. I saw the LB drills at the combine and he looked fast & had great balance in all the drills. He's also really strong with 32 reps on the bench. Team captain, first team All Big Ten. An upgrade over Smith, for sure, and a guy to develop for a potential starting role.

    I understand the practice squad moves - they happen all the time. But why Yount? Did he screw up enough to warrant signing someone who hasn't played for us before? Is Albritton a stud?

    The problem is Rah thinks Hayes is one of his "studs"LOL. We'd be better right now if Watson was in the line up.

    Like the pickup of OLB Homan for the Practice Squad. Sporting News felt he was worth 2d round consideration in the draft. He is very physical and has good speed and is an instinctive linebacker who is good covering pass receivers and making tackles and rushing the passer, and is good on special teams too. Doesn't hurt that he was just cut by the Vikings. Perhaps he can fill us in on what plays we may have to defend against the Vikings this Sunday. Ha.
