Former Rutgers wide receiver coach P. J. Fleck resigned one day after accepting the offensive coordinator job at Northern Illinois University according to a report from ESPN within the last hour.
While the reason is not clear, the fact that Fleck worked with Schiano at Rutgers could possibly mean a move to Tampa is coming in some capacity. Or perhaps Fleck will join Rutgers if Tampa hires current Rutgers offensive coordinator Frank Cingetti. It is all speculation at this point but worth noting especially with the lack of movement in hiring assistants.
Fleck’s coaching career began under Jim Tressel at Ohio State after his brief career in the NFL as a wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers. Fleck was hired by Schiano in 2010 and coached wide receivers.
