After four seasons as a Buccaneer linebacker Geno Hayes takes his game to the Windy City after signing a deal with the Chicago Bears according to the Chicago Tribune.
Former Buccaneers weakside linebacker Geno Hayes has reportedly found a new home, signing with the Chicago Bears according to the Chicago Tribune.

Hayes was a sixth-round draft pick in 2008 out of Florida State and earned the starting spot previously occupied by Bucs' great Derrick Brooks in 2009. Hayes played well in 2009, starting 13 games, and recording 98 tackles and three sacks.

The former Nole had an even better 2010 season, starting all 16 games, while notching 82 tackles, four sacks and also returning an interception for a touchdown against the Arizona Cardinals.

Much was expected of Hayes in 2011 as he entered the final year of his contract, but the fourth-year pro, like the entire defense, failed to live up to expectations. Last season Hayes was benched for his poor play, and replaced in the lineup by Adam Hayward for two games. Hayes finished 2011 with just 64 tackles, no sacks and one interception.

Details of Hayes' contract with the Bears were not released.

No great loss. This drives home the point even more that the Bucs had better address the situation at LB. It sure would be nice to draft a good one next week in the mold of Kuechly, Upshaw, Hightower, Brown etc. I also think they are wastiong time with Quincy Black and Hayward. I haven't seen a whole lot of production from those two. Better get out there and see about some free agent LB's as well. Once cuts start there will probably be some serviceable LB's available. Please draft 2 CB's,2 LB's,1 RB, 1TE or try to do something in FA.

Who cares about Geno. The real issue to me is that if every teams LB core was ranked right now, the Bucs would be 32 no doubt. We have none. And the reality is that we will probably be picking a corner in the first round and a running back in the 2nd so we wont get another LB til at least the 3rd...again. What gives?????

He'll be a special teams ace and a decent backup OLB. Like many former 6th round pick LB's, that's all he was ever meant to be in the NFL. Good luck Geno.
