Paul Gruber is set to become the fourth member of the Buccaneers Ring of Honor at an 11 a.m. press conference Wednesday at One Buccaneer Place.
The Buccaneers are set to add their fourth member to the Ring of Honor today, and the latest former Tampa Bay player to be honored will be long time offensive tackle Paul Gruber. Tampa Bay plans to officially introduce Gruber Wednesday at 11 a.m. at a press conference at One Buccaneer Place.
Gruber, who will join former head coach John McKay, the late Lee Roy Selmon and last year’s inductee Jimmie Giles, was the Buccaneers number one (fourth overall) draft pick in 1988 out of Wisconsin, and played his entire 12-year, 183-game career for the Buccaneers.
Gruber talked about the honor to the Tampa Bay Times on Tuesday.
"It's a real honor," Gruber said. "I haven't played the game in quite awhile, so to be recognized in this way is really special. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone. I think that's probably true, I didn't get a lot of recognition. But it was a game I enjoyed playing and I enjoyed competing every week at a high level. Recognition is not really why I did what I did."
