Bucs veteran defensive back Ronde Barber returns for his 16th season in the NFL and when he lines up September 9th against the Carolina Panthers the game will mark his 200th consecutive start, a franchise record. The organization plans to mark the milestone with giveaways and promotions, including free parking and discounted concessions.
From the Buccaneers public relations department:

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers today announced plans aimed at maximizing their home field advantage for the September 9 regular-season opener versus the Carolina Panthers, while honoring CB Ronde Barber for the achievement of his 200th consecutive start. The promotion includes free parking, half-off concessions, and a great giveaway.

Tickets for the home opener, where Barber will be recognized, will go on sale on Friday, June 29, several weeks before the remaining home games. Fans attending the game will be treated to a commemorative Ronde Barber gym sack, while also receiving 50% off all concessions (excluding alcohol) in both General and Club levels, and being offered free parking in select lots.

"As we usher in a new Buccaneer era that kicks off in September, we are looking forward to celebrating Ronde Barber's 200th consecutive start," said Buccaneers Co-Chairman Bryan Glazer. "Ronde has made us all proud during his 15 seasons with the team, and this next milestone is yet another along the road that we expect will lead to Canton. Our fans have a lot to look forward to this season, and we hope this promotion helps give everyone the chance to both celebrate a Bucs great and join the fight."

Barber, who decided this spring to return to Tampa Bay for his 16th season, joined the Buccaneers as a third-round draft pick in the 1997 NFL Draft from the University of Virginia. He has gone on to become one of the most decorated and beloved players in team history. Barber's 199 straight starts is the longest streak in the NFL amongst active players, as the five-time Pro Bowler and eight-time team captain has started every game for the Buccaneers since Week 10 of the 1999 season. Barber is the only defensive back in the NFL since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970 to start each of his team's games for 12 consecutive seasons. His consecutive starts streak is also the longest by a cornerback in NFL history, while his 224 consecutive games played are tied for the second-longest streak by a defensive player in the NFL since 1970.

Barber has 43 career interceptions and 27 career sacks, making him the only player in NFL history to have 40 or more interceptions and 25 or more sacks in a career. In addition, his 1,337 tackles rank second in team history behind only LB Derrick Brooks, and his 11 touchdowns on takeaways ranks fifth in NFL history.

"...while also receiving 50% off all concessions (excluding alcohol)"...Dammit! I was already going to the home opener and this just sweetens the deal. Go Glazers, go Ronde and go Bucs!!

Dominance is one thing. Production is another. Ronde's numbers don't lie. He'll make the final cut in Canton one day.

I will never forget the Ronde pick in the NFC championship game vs. the Eagles that sealed Sylvestor Stallone's pre-game Rocky-6 Super Bowl fate! Had to admit I teared up on that one after twenty six years of faithful and painful Buccaneer following. All those years sitting in the sweat and beer soaked Sombrero and Raymond James heat and rain; I guess it will always be a seminal moment for me that I doubt can ever be topped in my mind when it comes to my hometown Bucs. Even the Superbowl was a bit anti-climactic after that victory that was sealed up by Ronde! Class act and player and I will always have a special memory of Ronde over all past and present Buccaneer players. Ronde best of health to you and your family and good luck on what may be your final season. I will be watching September 9th from Atlanta and probably tearing up again like a sentimental idiot when they call your name before your amazing Cal Ripkenesque 200th consecutive NFL and Buccaneer start! Just goes to show you can't measure a man by his size; heart and will baby, heart and will! You da man!

Gotta give it up to Ronde. Dude is a hell of a player and a true pro. Happy he has stayed a Buc for his whole career. Can't wait to see him start up his 200th game in person. Who's with me!?
